Weavers Quarter shortlisted for Evening Standard Award 2018
We are delighted to announce that Weavers Quarter has been shortlisted for Evening Standard Award 2018 - ‘Best Development in the Affordable Homes Sector’ category.
This is one of the most coveted awards in the country, giving developers and architects the chance to showcase homes and achieve recognition from the buying public.
Judging is independent, decided by a panel of property experts and Evening Standard readers with recent buying experience.
Across 14 categories, the awards embrace the spectrum, from first-time buyer flats to luxurious mansions; from city centre high-rise towers to barn conversions, and from boutique apartment projects to large-scale regeneration schemes. .
Weavers Quarter was visited by independant judge and we provided full information about the development with regards to challenges we overcame, local marketing to encourage home ownership, history of the site and architectural details.
He was also shown around the development accompanied by L&Q Development, Marketing, Sales team, Site Director and architect. Representative of The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham was also present.
Winners will be announced at a gala luncheon at The Dorchester hotel in Mayfair on May 2018.
Weavers Quarter shortlisted for First Time Buyer Award 2018
We are delighted to announce that Weavers Quarter has been shortlisted for Best Urban Regeneration Project in the First Time Buyer Awards 2018. The award, which will be voted for by the public, recognises developments within a neighbourhood regeneration scheme which are having a demonstrable positive effect on the local area.

Materials from Weavers Quarter Incorporated into Exhibition
Dagenham-based artist, Griffi, has opened an exhibition at Studio 3 Arts’ Boundary Road Gallery, just minutes from Weavers Quarter. All of the art on display in this exhibition has been created out of objects found or donated locally, including a number of building materials collected during the construction of Weavers Quarter.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday 9.30am – 5.30pm, and entry is free. Griffi will be giving a talk on ‘the process of making’ to close the exhibition on February 10th, 5 – 7pm.

Having received high levels of interest for new homes at Weavers Quarter, we are marking the start of 2018 by lifting the borough restrictions. Christmas comes to Barking
Christmas cheer has come to Barking, with a whole host of festive events taking place across the borough this month. It’s Panto season, and family-favourite Cinderella has taken up residency at The Broadway Theatre, running all through December until New Year’s Eve. The theatre is just a ten minute walk from new homes at Weavers Quarter and would make for the perfect festive family outing.
Later on in the month, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham are hosting a one week Christmas food market; selling doughnuts, chestnuts, German sausage and candyfloss. There will also be a two-day family Christmas market on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd, complete with children’s rides, free Christmas card making, face-painting and snowmen! In addition, there will be wreath-making workshops at the Boathouse Café, Christmas afternoon tea at Eastbury Manor and a wide range of festive events taking place all month, so make sure you explore everything Barking has to offer this December.

Welcome to Weavers Quarter
The leader of Barking and Dagenham Council has launched the chosen name as, “Weavers Quarter” referring to Barking and Dagenham’s rich industrial history and the Barking Jute Works, also known as the Abbey Works. The factory was established in 1866 on the east bank of the River Roding at the southern end of Fisher Street and was reputed to be the largest in the United Kingdom before it’s closure in 1891.
Local arts organisation, Studio 3 Arts were invited to utilise part of the new hoarding to showcase a selection of their extensive work from the arts-led social history project, Open Estate. Their artwork features snippets of stories told by Gascoigne Estate residents and is also located on St. Margaret’s Close.
Labour candidate for Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, visits L&Q project
Labour candidate for Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, visited our flagship renewal project Weavers Quarter last week. The Tooting MP visited the construction site of the first phase which will provide 421 homes and has won a ‘Project Award’ at the Housing Design Awards. The awards, promoted by the Greater London Authority and Department for Communities and Local Government, celebrate innovative and thoughtful design in planned and newly built developments across the public and private housing sectors in the UK.
Bouygues UK appointed as constructor for new homes
L&Q and LBBD are regenerating the eastern end of the Gascoigne Estate in Barking, with shared responsibility for funding, design, construction and maintenance. Bouygues UK has been appointed to deliver the first 190 homes as part of Phase One of the project, as well as the construction of an energy centre. Altogether, the contract represents a value of approximately £41.5m.
Helping Barking & Dagenham celebrate their 50th birthday!
This year, L&Q is proud to be an official sponsor for the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) 50th anniversary of the merging of boroughs. To celebrate, they have planned over 50 anniversary events, such as the Roundhouse Music Festival on 6th June in Central Park in Dagenham, celebrating the rich musical history of the Roundhouse pub.
Gascoigne Estate masterplan given the green light
Councillors in Barking and Dagenham have given the go ahead for a proposal that will see 1,575 homes, gardens and a new public square developed on the eastern side of the Gascoigne Estate in Barking. Some of which funding has been provided by The Mayor of London’s Housing Covenant programme, which provides homes for working Londoners.
